Hello there. I thought why not share some hobbies everyone can do, when they're feeling sad, as my very first blog post? That's what I'm doing at least. I love having quite a lot of hobbies, because then there's always something I want to do. I know it can be difficult to get into a hobby, or maintain a hobby, or even do a hobby, especially if you're feeling sad or even depressed, but I promise, having a hobby to do when feeling that way really do help. So... what hobbies to do when you're feeling sad?
POTTERY:
I love pottery! I'm so lucky to be living in a supported living community that has its very own pottery studio with a kiln and everything! I do understand it's far from everyone who is this lucky, so if you're not having your now kiln, don't fear! You can either burn your pottery in a microwave with a microwave kiln! Or you can try doing pottery that air dries. You can make anything out of pottery, however if you're choosing pottery made of air drying clay, you can't make anything that has to contain food. To make items that can contain food, the clay needs to be a clay that will be burned.
SEWING:
I also love sewing a lot! I got my first sewing machine for Christmas last year, actually. If you don't own your own sewing machine, then try borrowing one, or buy a cheaper one, but a good one. The one I got was a Singer Simple 3223 sewing machine, and I got it in light grey, but you can also get it in yellow, blue, dark grey and pink! Personally, I want to be a professional fashion designer, who designs dance- and sportswear, maybe even other clothing too. You don't need to be a professional to sew, and you actually don't need to be a professional in anything to do something, you don't even need to be good, as long as you're enjoying it.
KNITTING:
I love to knit leg warmers for dance, or sweaters and vests. I recommend PetiteKnit for everyone, but especially for beginners, as her patterns are very easy to understand. If you're more into everything you find on Pinterest, I recommend looking for patterns on Etsy! If you don't want to spend a lot of money on knitting needles or yarn, I recommend buying for a single project first, where you buy only one or two knitting needles, and yarn on sale. Usually you can find some yarn at a supermarket, but I do recommend going to a yarn store to buy quality yarn, as it will make the experience better, in my opinion.
CROCHETING:
I also love crocheting, and my favorite things you can make with crocheting are bags, decor (especially Halloween themed decor, such as pumpkins!), flower bouquets, book marks, and so many other things! Just as with knitting, I recommend buying just one or two crochet hooks in the beginning - I recommend the Clover Soft Touch crochet hooks, but it really depends on personal choice, which you'll first find out once you start. You can find lots of cute patterns on Etsy, it's personally where I find all of my patterns!
EMBROIDERY:
I don't personally do embroidery, but I'd love to try it! I've found some really cute patterns on Etsy, and I especially love the fall- and Halloween themed ones! You can also buy an embroidery kit, where everything you need is included. Lastly, you can also try to embroider your clothes, your shoes, or even your canvas bag!
VISION BOARD MAKING:
This is something I do every year! I love it so much that I consider doing it every month, haha! Making a vision board is therapeutic and healing to me, because it reminds me of my goals, my hopes and my dreams. You can do as I'd like to do: make a vision board every month, with the things you'd like to achieve that month, and afterwards try to achieve it. Every time you achieve something from your vision board, you grow a little, whether it's big or small. I recommend going to a thrift store to find a really pretty frame for your vision board. If you don't have a printer, or you want more quality photos, you can go to a photo print shop - that's usually what I do!

PAINTING:
I love to paint, and I'm actually also working on becoming a professional artist! I use mainly oil painting, and the style I typically do is hyperrealistic art. I also like to do watercolor painting and acrylic painting - sometimes also pastels. If you have never painted before, I recommend starting out with acrylic painting, or watercolor painting - it depends on the final look you want. Paints can be really expensive, and normally I would also recommend buying high-quality paints, but if you're just starting out, I recommend the acrylic painting from Winsor & Newton, or the much cheaper acrylic paints from Søstrene Grene.
DRAWING:
As with painting, I love to draw! I usually also draw hyperrealistic art. My favorite colored pencils are the Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils, they're really expensive, but you can draw with anything. If you want to try out my favorite colored pencils, I recommend buying the set with 12 or 20 colored pencils at first. I've also heard the Prismacolor Premier colored pencils are really good, and I actually wish for them for Christmas this year.
DIGITAL ART:
I personally haven't tried digital art, but I'd love to try it and become really good at it! I think some digital art looks really cool. Also, I'd recommend a tablet for digital art, I got a iPad Pro 12.9" 6.generation, which I'll use for it, now I just need to buy an Apple Pencil, too! The program I will be using for my digital art is called ProCreate!
JOURNALING:
I usually use a bullet journal, because I also like drawing in my journal. I love finding cute photos on Pinterest, print them out, and put them into my journal. I make my journal very inspiring, because it makes me happy to be inspired and motivated. In a journal you can also make trackers for drinking water, workouts, and other things. You can also do a vision board in it. The options are never-ending, which is why I love journaling!
WRITING:
I write poems, novels, and I used to write FanFiction. I want to be a published author someday, but you don't need that - you can also just write for fun. You can also join a writing club, where you can share your work with others. If you want to write for fun, but still have people reading it, I recommend WattPad. I really want to write FanFiction again, but I don't know where to publish it, so if you know anywhere to publish FanFiction, please let me know in the comments!
READING:
I used to read so much when I was a child, and I really miss reading so much. Now I usually read romance books, but I also want to get into fantasy again! Currently I have quite a few fantasy books on my to-read list, which are Fourth Wing, A Court of Thorns and Roses, and Throne of Glass, to mention a few. You can also listen to audiobooks while doing another hobby!

LANGUAGE LEARNING:
Right now I only speak English and Danish fluently, but I'd love to learn French, Spanish and Italian! You can learn any language you want, and I recommend Skillshare (it's a paid membership, however) to learn new languages along with some language books.
MUSIC:
Whether you want to learn an instrument, learn how to sing, or write your own music, then music is always a great hobby! I want to become a very good musician, where violin, viola, cello and piano will be my main instruments - but I will be playing more musical instruments on very high level. I also want to write my own classical music pieces, and maybe even some pop songs.
NAIL ART:
I love and hate nail art, because it takes so much time, haha! I recommend brands such as Neglefeber, Nailster and Makear, but do not mix the brands though, as the gels needs different UV-light, so either you need more than one UV-lamp, or then don't mix the brands. Personally, I have from two of the brands, but I also got two UV-lamps, and I really want to try the third brand.
PHOTOGRAPHY:
I used to do a lot of photography, but then I sold my cameras, which I really regret. I am currently saving up for a Sony A7iii camera and a few lenses, because I do miss photography a lot.
VIDEO MAKING:
When I was a teenager, I dreamed of becoming a film producer on a TV-show. Now I want to become a YouTuber, I just feel like I need a little better self-esteem first. If you're into filmmaking like me, you can make a YouTube channel, and share your videos, or you can keep them private as a diary to yourself.
JEWELRY MAKING:
I love to make jewelry, and I usually make bracelets and necklaces out from high quality materials such as glass beads, sterling silver clasps, and crystal pearls such as amethyst. I want to invest in buying art clay silver materials, so I can design and make my very own sterling silver rings, bracelets, pendants, etc. It's very expensive, however, but I'm sure it will be worth it.
I will always recommend getting a hobby you can do alone, because then you can always do that hobby, also when you're feeling sad. If you have a hobby that isn't mentioned here, but it's a hobby that brings you peace, please leave a comment where you're describing it, let's help each other feel less alone <3
xx Allie
